Age-Specific Classes
Infants & Toddlers (0-3 years)
In these gentle, guided classes, children move with the support of their caregivers as needed. Through fun activities like dancing, balancing, standing, and posing, they develop their gross motor skills. I love using visual cues, especially with animal-themed poses like Cat, Cow, Downward Dog, and Cobra. We show children pictures of the animals, say their names, and encourage them to identify the animal, before practicing the movements together.
We work on fine motor skills by matching hand movements to songs and using props like instruments or scarves to shake and move. These classes help children build motor skills while also enhancing visual recognition, vocabulary, memory, attention, and listening abilities.
Adolescents (10-19 years)
With the pressures of academics, social life, and personal growth, these classes explore themes like resilience, self-acceptance, positive self-talk, and goal-setting. While most poses are similar to those taught to younger children, adolescents are able to hold poses longer and focus on alignment to build strength, balance, flexibility, and self-awareness. Breathing and meditation exercises also go deeper, helping them develop valuable focus and attention regulation skills.
These classes also honour adolescents’ growing independence by encouraging them to share and even teach one another.
Older Adults (65 and older)
These gentle yoga sessions follow a slower pace to enhance safety as we practice, focusing on flexibility, balance, and joint health. With options like chair yoga, participants can engage in movement that suits their comfort level and experience. Each class emphasizes mindful movement and breath awareness, promoting physical vitality and emotional well-being. We create a welcoming environment where older adults can socialize, connect with their bodies, reduce stress, and enjoy the benefits of yoga at their own pace.
Children (4-9 years)
These classes introduce a wider range of poses, allowing children to explore balance, coordination, and strength more independently. Breathing techniques and mindfulness exercises are also introduced.
To keep children engaged, classes often use storytelling and themes. For example, we might imagine being Space Explorers or spending a day at the beach. Themes are often tied to seasons or holidays, such as Kwanzaa, Christmas, Hanukkah, Ramadan, and Holi.
Through yoga, games, and creative play, children build confidence and social skills. We dance, play games, and use lots of props to enhance learning and engagement!
Adults (20-64 years)
With the pressures of academics, social life, and personal growth, these classes explore themes like resilience, self-acceptance, positive self-talk, and goal-setting.
